KNOWING THE VOICE OF GOD

In the course of my work, I met a friend who was very clear about his relationship with God. After we had a heart-to-heart, he told me something that has left me speechless ever since. He said, "I now know his voice." How often are we sure that God is talking to us? Have we ever been so sure that God is speaking to us now? Knowing how to hear God's voice is a skill that every Christian should learn.

If there is something special about God's voice, it is that everyone who has heard it is sure it is God.

When the Holy Spirit is at work in our lives, he tells us what to do. But does that mean that every thought we have is a message from God? How can you tell the difference between a prompting from God and a lie from Satan?

When Satan gets inside our minds, he only wants to hurt us. No matter how he does it—through discouragement, temptation, frustration, depression, or despair—his goal is always to keep us from being close to God, to hurt our spiritual health, and to stop us from obeying and serving God.

THE VOICE OF OUR ENEMY SAYS STUFF LIKE THESE:

This situation is hopeless, you messed up last time and you're sure to mess up again, you're no good: too weak, too stupid, too shy, too ugly, no one cares about you, you're all alone here, give up, run away, you're a failure, It's too late to fix it, nothing you can do will help, God is mad at you, God will never help someone like you, everyone else gets good things but you, you've sinned And it goes on.

God doesn't do anything like that. He doesn't downplay or ignore our sin, but he does remind us that it is taken care of. If we tell the truth and apologise, we can be free. God's voice shows us how to get out of trouble and gives us the strength to do the hard work of making things right.

THE MESSAGES OF THE SPIRIT ARE LIKE THESE:

You did something wrong, but you are forgiven. Here's what you need to do to fix the problem. I will help you decide what to do next. Don't lie about your sin. If you admit it, you can get the forgiveness that Christ died for. You are never alone. I am with you, my precious child. I gave my life for you, so you don't need to do anything to make me happy. I already love you, believe me. I will give you strength, trust me, I want to lead you, you are mine forever, there is no sin so bad that I have not forgiven you, everything will work out for your good, my plans for you are good.
